Job Summary

The Engineering Director is responsible for ensuring proper operations, maintenance, service and repair of all equipment, while supporting the company goals of guest satisfaction, cost control and profitability.  Directs and supervises the Repair & Maintenance staff. Directs a team responsible for the maintenance of buildings and pools, including renovations, expansions, grounds and improvements.

 

Main responsibilities:

  • Develops and implements policies and procedures for receiving and prioritizing requests for maintenance.
  • Develops schedules for preventative maintenance and ensures that facilities are inspected regularly to identify current and potential maintenance needs, Usage and implementation of Hyatt and company system to track the progress.
  • Ensures repairs comply with internal policies and external regulations. Maintains records and documentation related to repairs made.
  • Contributes to strategic planning direction and goal setting for the department or function in collaboration with senior management.
  • Establishes departmental policies practices and procedures that have a significant impact on the organization.
  • Maintain Inventory of supplies.
  • Coordinate all inspections of the fire safety systems, including extinguishers, smoke alarms, etc., to maintain proper safety standards
  • Maintain regular attendance in compliance with company standards as required by scheduling which will vary according to the needs of the hotel.
  • Act as emergency contact person.
  • Immediately follow up on any alarms to determine the exact location and cause; determine emergency status and report to Guest Services and/or the General Manager with findings.
  • Ensure that the Preventative Maintenance program is implemented and administered according to company company standards.
  • Evaluate and spot check the work of all staff and contractors or outside laborers.
  • Handle guestroom maintenance requests in a timely manner.
  • Drive safely on behalf of the company for business reasons.
  • Perform any other duties as requested by management.

 

Minimum requirements of the position:

  • At least 5 years of progressive experience in a hotel or a related field; or a 2-year college degree and 3 or more years of related experience; or a 4-year college degree and at least 2 years of related experience.
  • Previous management experience is required.
  • Strong organization and presentation skills.
  • English and Spanish verbal and written.
  • Must be able to evaluate and select among alternative courses of action quickly and accurately.
  • Must be able to work with and understand financial information and data, and basic arithmetic functions.
  • Must be effective in handling problems in the workplace, including anticipating, preventing, identifying and solving problems as necessary.
